Who are RIMS members?
RIMS serves over 4,800 businesses and organizations represented by over 10,000 individuals with risk management responsibilities throughout the world. If you want to know what's happening on the leading edge of the risk management discipline in virtually any sector of the economy, there's a RIMS member with the information you need.

How much does it cost to become a member?
Corporate Membership – Dues are $490 per year, plus any applicable local chapter dues. This fee entitles the company to place 2 individuals (Deputy members) on the membership who are involved with the company’s internal risk management function. Additional Deputy members may be added for $160 per year plus any applicable local chapter dues.

Associate of the Society Membership – Dues are $500 per year plus any applicable local chapter dues.

Honorary Members – There are no dues collected for Honorary members.

Educational Membership – Dues are $100 per year, plus any applicable local chapter dues.

Student Membership – Dues are $50 per year, plus any applicable local chapter dues.

Affiliate Membership – Due to the current economic downturn, RIMS is waiving dues for Affiliate members from January 1, 2009 until they are employed again or for up to 24 months. Affiliates may have to pay applicable local chapter dues if they have not opted to waive their dues.

Retired Members – Dues are $100 per year, plus any applicable local chapter dues.

What benefits are available to RIMS members?

Who can join as a Corporate member?

Available to any corporation, organization or legal entity, provided that the individual representatives, known as “Deputy members”, are salaried employees of the organization requesting membership and solely provide the internal risk management function for the benefit of the member (the Corporation). The corporation, not the individual, holds this membership. Category allows for two representatives per company.

Additional representatives who meet the eligibility requirements can be added for $150 plus any applicable local chapter dues.

Who can join as an Associate of the Society?

For an individual who can confirm their commitment to uphold and further the risk management discipline, and who is NOT eligible for Deputy membership. This membership is available to the vendor or service provider – ex. a broker, lawyer, consultant, account executive, outsourced risk manager, etc. An individual who works with clients of their employer is eligible to be an Associate of the Society.

Who can join as an Educational Member?

For any faculty member teaching risk management, insurance or benefits courses or chairing a department that offers risk management, insurance or benefits courses.

Who can join as an Affiliate member?

For any current Deputy member upon separation from their current place of employment. It is renewable once, for a maximum of 2 years from the date of separation. As of January 1, 2009, RIMS will waive Society dues for Affiliate membership for up to 24 months. Affiliate membership expires as soon as the individual is again employed.

Who can join as a Student member?

A Student Membership may be granted to a full-time student, as defined by that college or university. The student’s major must be in risk management, insurance or business, finance or management with an emphasis in risk management and/or insurance provided such individual is not otherwise eligible for membership in another class. Student Members should be affiliated with a RIMS Chapter, to the extent possible given the student’s location relative to the Chapter area. Individual can NOT be eligible for any other membership category.

Who can join as a Retired member?

For the Deputy member, Associate of the Society or Educational member who was previously employed in risk management or one of its related specialties prior to retirement. Member must be fully retired.

Do I have to belong to a local chapter?
Yes, RIMS requires all members to belong to their local chapters. Participating and attending meetings at the local chapter level is one of the greatest benefits of membership. Local chapters provide the opportunity for monthly educational sessions and the opportunity to expand your network.

I'm not a member, can I still take a course, buy a publication or go to the RIMS Annual Conference?
Anybody can take a RIMS Professional Development Course, purchase a publication or go to the RIMS Annual Conference. Members receive a discount on all of RIMS products and services.

How do I rent or buy the RIMS membership list?
The RIMS membership and annual conference list is available for rental. For information, please email your request to lists@rims.org or call (212) 655-5920.

What advertising opportunities does RIMS offer?

There are people and companies listed as "non-members" in the membership list that we pull from RIMS Web site for the local chapter. What category of membership is this? Why are they still listed if they are not members of RIMS?
Individuals listed as nonmembers in RIMS database are people who are not members of RIMS, but who have done business with RIMS. In other words they may have bought a product or service, attended the RIMS Annual Conference and Exhibition, and/or were previously members of RIMS. We include them in the database because they are great prospective members and good customers.
