Enterprise Risk Management: What Top Management Wants from Its ERM Program
July 9, 2008 - 12:00 - 1:00 PM EST
Enterprise Risk Management — or ERM in management parlance — is top of mind among many CEOs and boards of directors. And not just in the financial industries, where the subprime mortgage crisis has triggered a broad malaise. Debt rating agencies and regulators are beginning to step up their scrutiny of corporations' risk management processes. Now all corporate leaders are paying attention to their methods and processes for dealing with risk and uncertainty.
ERM comes in many flavors — COSO ERM, Australian/New Zealand Risk Standard, ISO 31000. Many companies have a Corporate Risk Officer in place or are implementing an enterprise governance, risk and compliance platform. But if your ERM is compliance-centric, the effort will miss the real opportunity to protect and enhance shareholder value.
In this webinar, two advisors to CEOs and boards will discuss what top management really needs from its ERM program. We will feature a case study of one company that views risk, not as a threat to be neutralized, but as an opportunity and a competitive advantage, and the steps it took to successfully implement value-driven ERM.
Presenters in the webinar include Dr. Robert Mark, former Chief Risk Officer of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and author of The Essentials of Risk Management, and Dr. Carl Spetzler, CEO of Strategic Decisions Group and a leading architect of SDG's approach to ERM.
This webinar is hosted by the Stanford Center for Professional Development in partnership with Strategic Decisions Group and is co-sponsored by the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS).
